How Solar Energy Complements These Plans

Installing a solar energy system is an excellent way to reduce dependency on grid electricity, regardless of the rate plan you choose. However, combining solar with the right pricing structure can maximize savings:

  1. Offsetting On-Peak Rates: Solar systems produce the most energy during peak daylight hours, reducing the need to draw expensive on-peak electricity from the grid.
  2. Nighttime Savings with Net Metering: Excess solar energy produced during the day can be sent back to the grid through Hydro Ottawa’s Net Metering program. These credits can offset costs during high-rate periods or overnight use.
  3. Supporting Overnight Plans: While solar generates power during the day, pairing it with a battery storage system can allow customers to use stored solar power during ultra-low overnight pricing periods or during peak hours.

Why Choose Solar Now?

Ontario’s electricity rates are expected to continue rising in the coming years due to infrastructure upgrades and the transition to clean energy. By installing solar, you can lock in savings, stabilize energy costs, and contribute to a greener future.

Hydro Ottawa’s Ultra-Low Overnight Pricing is a step forward in offering more flexible energy solutions, but the greatest savings come from taking control of your energy production.
